Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

Her series, shown in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Fall 2023 Undergraduate Exhibition utilizes Augmented Reality, Ynez Esqueda connects the digital world to the physical by adding another dimension to 2D prints. In “Gabriel(la)” I relate and connect with the patron saint of communication Gabriel, a religious figure found in Catholicism. This screenprint depicts Gabriel consumed in a seemingly dying light while bright new energy surrounds the female figure, who has stumbled onto the archangel. Using art as my form of communication, I intended to illustrate the scene of the creation of a new image of Gabriel.
