The Dia de Los Muertos celebration continues at Mission Marquee Plaza where the community is invited to contribute offerings to the Community Altar, transforming the stage into three altars, celebrating friends and family members who have passed. Images will be displayed on the large movie screen during the event. An overview of Dia de Los Muertos will be presented by Grandma Coyote, Emma Ortega.
Interactive art workshops led by educator and local artist Terry Ybañez, Calavera poem writing by Jessica Tiltan and Nathan Zertuche, face painting by Color Instinct, and artisans and specialty vendors with Dia de Los Muertos goods and crafts. The event will feature host MC Anthony “The Poet,” live music, dance, and spoken word performances by Joe Posada, Volcan, Chayito y Los Flamenco de San Antonio with accompaniment by Poet and Artist, Amaila Ortiz, Mariachi Azteca de América, Ballet Folklorico Sol de San Antonio, Zombie Bazaar, and Calavera Poems by Victoria Fennell, Tomás Julián, and Eddie Vega. A special presentation of the Monarch Butterflies Migration Program produced by the Jump-Start Performance Co. will be performed by Gilbert Elementary students.
The event will conclude with a special screening of “The Book of Life”.
