44th Annual "Altares y Ofrendas" Dia de los Muertos Exhibit and Celebration

Centro Cultural Aztlan is pleased to continue the tradition in presenting our 44th annual Día de los Muertos exhibition, Altares y Ofrendas.

This year we are returning to in-person events and we hope you join us! We will also have a virtual presentation for those who do are not ready to join in person.

This event illustrates the artistic, cultural, and religious facets of this popular pre-Columbian Mexican tradition where death is seen as a natural part of life and this reality is approached with humor a celebration of life. Photographs of loved ones passed grace altars as well as offerings of food, marigolds, incense, candles, and other traditional offerings.

Join us for an in-gallery and/or virtually on a fantastic tour of cultural traditions, history, and an artistic celebration including: Altars by local artists, our annual “Callejon de los Muertos” Artisan market on the breezeway featuring some of the most noted artists and makers in San Antonio.

Opening Reception Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021 from 6-9PM.

Centro Cultural Aztlan is proud to present Cultural Expressions a series of community-based events that promote the work of Chican@/Latin@ artists. Through this series of visual art exhibitions, community discussions, literary events, and performances, Centro Cultural Aztlan empowers artists to create and exhibit their work and reach new audiences.

COVID-19 has greatly impacted the work we do here at Centro Cultural Aztlan, and we have had to adapt quickly! The Cultural Expressions series will allow us to continue engaging the artistas de Aztlan who were scheduled to participate in exhibitions that were canceled due to Covid-19.  We are taking steps to continue to bring valuable programming to the community via digital platforms through Facebook, YouTube and our website.

Since the closure of our gallery, many artists do not have the means—or place—to exhibit and sell their works. The Cultural Expressions series will help highlight their stories and their art, while making our Gallery available to our comunidad virtually.
