Día del Niño Celebrating Mission Library's Quinceañera

Día del Niño is an annual festival featuring more than 30 multicultural experiences including traditional Mexican arts such as repujado, embroidery, mosaics, papel picado, mural painting, ojo de dios; traditional games such as Lotería and Tira la Chancla; storytelling and free books; heritage foods such as grinding cacao beans on a metate, making a family tree, learning basic ballet folklorico steps, making a book, and even a children’s parade. The festival will feature Dr. Gilberto Soto, a renowned musician and performer who will lead the audience in singing both traditional rondas as well as new games and activities.

This year’s festival marks the 15th anniversary of the Mission Library, a Quinceañera, and it will include a birthday celebration for the library at precisely 10 am. The children’s parade begins at 10:30. To emphasize the importance of literature in children’s lives, a special panel of educators and authors will present Multicultural Literature for Children at 10:45 am.

In addition, a Farmer’s and Artisan Market will be held beginning at 9am in the Mission Marquee Plaza with a Zumba class at 9am.
