Diez y Seis Charreada

Join the San Antonio Charro Association for the annual Diez y Seis Mexican Charreada and Girls Escaramuza performance. The San Antonio Charro Association was founded in 1947 with the intent to pass on the culture of charrería, to future generations. The charros (“gentlemen horsemen”) have been credited as forerunners to the American rodeo. Escaramuzas started in the 1950s and expanded the boundaries of the male sport of charrería. Escaramuza competitions are scored on skill, grace, and elegance. Girls competing in escaramuzas wear stunning traditional outfits inspired by the fearless Adelitas, women fighters in the Mexican Revolution. Ensembles follow strict guidelines to preserve historical and cultural authenticity.  The celebration will include food and drink booths.
