Fresh Ink Youth Slam is a community organization dedicated to promoting literacy and the literary arts to the young people of San Antonio, Texas. We work among the community to host workshops in creative writing, poetry, and performance based poetry. Believing that everyone's voice is important, we strive to provide a forum for young people to utilize their own voice in a creative space. Our hope is to make poetry available to the masses for artistic and healing purposes.

COVID Procedures:
Using the CDC as our consistent guide throughout the pandemic has helped make our events as safe as possible for our staff, artists, and participants.
Following their update regarding masking, Bexar County has now achieved a "low" community-level threat designation.
The CDC recommends in areas of "low" risk that people use masks per their preference or personal health situation.

What is a Poetry Slam?
A poetry slam is a form of performance poetry that combines the elements of performance, writing, competition, and audience participation.
What are the Rules?
1. Participants must be under 21 years of age.
2. Participants should be prepared to perform 3 rounds.
3. Judges are randomly chosen from the audience and scores each poem between 0 - 10.0.
4. Poets have 3 minutes and 10 seconds to complete their poem. Time penalty results in a loss of points.
5. Poets advance through rounds based on cumulative scores in rounds one and two.
What are the Prizes?
1. First Prize - Bragging rights, Blue Star Contemporary Membership and La Tisha Rosemond-Williams Confidence Grant. The grantee is guided through an arts and entrepreneurial/mentorship process, creating a business, branding and product. This grant is valued at over $1500.
2. Second Prize - Blue Star Contemporary Membership and $100 cash.
3. Third Prize - Blue Star Contemporary Membership and $50 cash.
