HUBBARD / BIRCHLER ARTIST TALK AND SCREENING

For their artist talk, Teresa Hubbard/ Alexander Birchler will share a special screening of their video installation, House with Pool (2004), which is related to their photographs in the current Water Ways exhibition. Structured as a seamless and suspenseful narrative loop, House with Pool follows a woman as she roams through a house after a party has ended, and a younger woman who covertly enters the same space. Although the women never meet and their relationship remains uncertain, they perform uncannily parallel actions. Precise camera and audio work construct a narrative where the viewer encounters a visual referring that constitutes the emotional inside as physical outside. RSVP is required

Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler have been working collaboratively since 1990. Their work focuses on the ways in which histories, social life, and memories intersect. They have participated in the 48th as well as the 57th Venice Biennale, where they represented Switzerland in the Swiss Pavilion.
