That journey achieved the first circumnavigation of the Earth, marking the beginning of what we now call globalization. A trip that changed the history of mankind.
Europa vivía la era de los descubrimientos (siglos XV y XVI) en su afán por encontrar la ruta más corta para ir a Oriente en busca de especias. Así, el 10 de agosto de 1519 zarpaba del puerto de Sanlúcar de Barrameda una flota de 5 barcos con 265 hombres a bordo, comandada por el navegante portugués Fernando de Magallanes. Al cabo de tres años de una calamitosa travesía de 80,000 kilómetros, a través de tres océanos, regresó al mismo puerto un solo barco con 18 hombres desnutridos, capitaneado por el español Juan Sebastián Elcano. Esa travesía logró la primera circunnavegación de la Tierra, marcando el inicio de lo que hoy llamamos globalización. Un viaje que cambió la historia de la humanidad.
