Marching to Freedom Concert Sponsored by San Antonio Choral Society

The path to freedom for African Americans has been long and arduous from the early days of slavery to the Underground Railroad, to Reconstruction and the Jim Crow laws, to the Civil Rights Era of the 60s and even in our own time.  This extended musical celebration of Black History month will juxtapose readings and stories with music by Black composers.  Music will include works by Margaret Bonds, Spiritual arrangements by Jester Hairston, Harry Burleigh and Moses Hogan, Robert Ray’s Gospel Magnificat, film music from Harriet and Selma, and more with special guest artists.  Tickets range from $5-$18; link to purchase tickets.

Established in 1965, the San Antonio Choral Society is an 80-plus, mixed-voice performing ensemble open to talented men and women from all walks of life.  Its programming fills a niche that no other choirs or musical ensembles meet in San Antonio—offering stylistic performances of everything from Byzantine chant to pops concerts.
