Curator Mia Lopez generates conversations around the aesthetics of Latinidad and the nuances of cultural heritage in Mercado/Material.
The exhibition features artists who use vibrant imagery and popular culture as a vehicle to address themes of their Latinx cultural identity and consumerism. By drawing upon the rich cultural history of the site of Centro de Artes Gallery, from its early days as a place of agricultural commerce to its current iteration as Market Square, the exhibition explores the visual culture that is abundant in the market through a new lens.
