Old Spanish Trail bus tour hosted by the San Antonio Conservation Society

San Antonio Conservation Society will host a bus tour of the Old Spanish Trail, from North Flores St. to Balcones Heights—showing the past and present.  The tour will begin at the Steves Homestead River House, 509 King William. Prior to the bus tour, Charlotte Kahl, San Antonio Chair of Bexar County Old Spanish Trail 100 (OST100), will present historical pictures of the Old Spanish Trail. 

Founded in 1924, the San Antonio Conservation Society is one of the first community preservation groups in the United States.  For over 90 years, the San Antonio Conservation Society has battled and been the leading force to conserve the buildings, waterways, parks and intangible heritage of this multicultural city.  The Society has laid the foundation for a dynamic, growing city projected to add almost a million new residents in the next quarter century. Instrumental in the conservation of downtown landmarks like the Aztec Theater, the Fairmount Hotel, Rand Building, and Casa Navarro, the Society helped save many buildings in La Villita, where it hosts its annual cultural celebration of preservation:  “A Night In Old San Antonio®.”  

In addition to advocating the reuse of historic structures, the Society also conducts annual bus tours of historic sites for school children; offers grants for community preservation projects; maintains two historic house museums and a research library; presents awards for the restoration of the built environment and for the publication of outstanding books on Texas history; hosts speakers; and supports heritage projects in many ways.
