Online Book Club: I Always Loved You: A Novel

In honor of America’s Impressionism, SAMA’s Book Club will read I Always Loved You: A Novel by Robin Oliveira.

A young Mary Cassatt moves to Paris after the Civil War to be an artist, but after a decade of work, her submission to the Paris Salon is rejected. Cassatt’s sheer determination begins to waver and her family in America is begging for her return. Then one evening, a friend introduces her to Edgar Degas, and Cassatt’s life changes forever. Through Oliveira’s brilliant recreation of Belle Époque Paris, I Always Loved You intertwines passion and foibles of the human heart through the eyes of Mary Cassatt.
