Join us to celebrate the joys of cross-cultural travel and learning. A photography exhibit in the Condos Student Gallery tells the stories of lives enriched during Women’s Global Connection’s Immersion Trips to Chimbote, Peru, where the Incarnate Word Sisters have been serving for over 50 years. Hundreds of university students, faculty and community members have volunteered on these trips since WGC Co-founder Sister Dorothy Ettling began them in the early 2000s. Projects that have resulted from them include a Clean Water Filtration program for families in the unincorporated zones near Chimbote; a women’s art and activism cooperative; and educational trainings and professional development for early childhood preschool teachers. The opening wine and cheese reception for the gallery exhibit will begin with a panel discussion on The Art of Learning Leadership, focused on Ettling’s style of service and teaching that she wove within the service models of WGC and the UIW-based center named after her, the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership.
