Poetic Republic Presents a Poetry Reading and Conversation With Reggie Scott Young

Reggie Scott Young will read and discuss works from his Individual Artist Grant project titled Searching for Robert Johnson at the Alamodome. In an era in popular culture in which the concept of a multiverse plays a role in both literature, music, television, and film, Young\\\’s poems imagine the legendary blues artist Robert Johnson emerging from out of the crossroads on day on San Antonio\\\’s East Side, not far from where he held his first recording session at the Guenther Hotel downtown. The question is: Is this the Robert Johnson from our past, or one who was sent here for elsewhere. Although Johnson\\\’s name appears in the title, the main character in this collection of linked poems designed to read as a novella is the man who rescues him from San Antonio traffic, Dr. Savion Strange, an unemployed college educator who faces his own challenges as a man whose education and lack of employment in an educational institution has left him bitter.

A free chapbook or poetry broadside will be given to attendees until supplies run out.

Some of the poems have mature themes and for that reason the program is not recommended for young children.
