Poetry Night in Culture Commons Gallery

The Department of Arts & Culture will host a Poetry Night on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 6 PM – 8 PM at the Culture Commons Gallery (115 Plaza de Armas). Local poets will perform new works inspired by the Resilient and Responsive: Artists and the Environment exhibition currently on view at Culture Commons Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.

This exhibition was organized in collaboration with the City’s Office of Sustainability and is focused on climate, the environment, and the impact on the local community. Fourteen San Antonio-based artists whose work responds to the City’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. The exhibition will be on view until January 17, 2025.

Newly appointed 2024 – 2027 San Antonio Poet Laureate, Eddie Vega along with former Poet Laureate Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson will each perform poetry readings along with local poets, Jesse Cardona, Anthony the Poet, Anel Flores, Zan Green, Jim La Villa Havelin, Glo Miles, Jessica Mitchell, DaRell Pittman, and Rod Carlos Rodriguez. Anthony Gordon will serve as Emcee, DJ and poet as well.
