Randy Guthmiller: Several Paintings and Some Books
About the artist: Randy Guthmiller presents several paintings and some books at Mercury Projects. The exhibition continues Guthmiller’s decade-long exploration of what the artist calls, “specifically ambiguous shapes” through watercolor paintings and books. Meant to be as open as possible the images present a multiplicity of meanings, some known and some unknown.
Randy Guthmiller is an artist and educator interested in connection, meaning-making and storytelling. His works have been exhibited with institutions and galleries such as the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, The Power Station, The Reading Room, and Under Construction Gallery. As an educator, he has worked with the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Nasher Sculpture Center, Perot Museum, among others. Guthmiller started the first zine fair in North Texas, Dallas Zine Party, and published artist-centric zines under the press, Shape Zines. He was a co-director of the artist-run alternative gallery, Beefhaus. He is currently Manager of Visitor Experiences and Programs for Ruby City and the director of Randy Guthmiller Center for the Advancement of the Arts.
