Remember The Autóctono

For this project, I am creating a one-ton 8′-tall steel and concrete kinetic sculpture as part of a larger long-term project. This human-like object will move with the slightest wind or when touched by a visitor. This sculpture will be part of a colorful tactile experience for the viewer/participant. This is the survivor, the native, the indigenous, The Autochthon.

Inspired by the Gaudi work in Park Guell and the mosaics of Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, I will create a sense of place in a culturally significant area so more people can appreciate the story of the indigenous.

These elements will be adorned with mosaics of glass, stones, and other embedded objects used to tell the story of the fate of the indigenous.

I want to give citizens and visitors a special unexpected sojourn along their way from downtown to the historic sites south of here. My property is adjacent to Interstate 10 as Roosevelt Ave. passes underneath the freeway, where there is no access road or exit ramp.
