San Antonio Black International Film Festival (SABIFF)

Carver Branch Library partners with the San Antonio Black International Film Festival (SABIFF) to present a day-long film festival in honor of Black History Month. This year’s theme is It’s All About Love, celebrates classic African American industry classic Black movies. The endearing event will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 11:30a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Prudence Curry Meeting Room, Carver Branch, 3350 E. Commerce Street. Food truck vendors, and SABIFF Fiesta medal sales will be on site for this free event open to the public.

SABIFF will present four eras of classic Hollywood movies themed around Black love from the 1960s to the present and will feature popular Black actors who went on to earn legendary status in the film industry. SABIFF extends Valentine Day with nostalgic cinema centered on romantic themes, and moving stories of the highest standard of Black entertainers, who not only made their mark on the big screen, but also in the hearts of movie goers worldwide.

11:30 pm – 1960 For the Love of Ivy Starring Sidney Poitier, Abbey Lincoln (101 min) [PG]

1:30 pm – 1970 Mahogany Starring Diana Ross, Billy Dee Williams (100 min) [PG]

3:15 pm –   1990 Love Jones Starring Nia Long, Larenz Tate (110 min) [R]

4:30 pm  – 2000 Love & Basketball Starring Sanaa Lathan, Omar Epps (118 min) [PG-13]

Food Truck Vending will be outside with menus ranging from Bar B.Q. to fish to desserts.
