Discovering the city’s involvement in creating some of the first Westerns
As a city known for its rich history, one largely unknown piece is San Antonio's significance in early filmmaking. Gaston Méliès, the forgotten older brother of A Trip to the Moon director Georges Méliès, lived in San Antonio and produced dozens of films capturing landmarks like The Alamo and Missions. These films went on to be some of the first Westerns and were screened in theaters in Europe and all over the world.
