A series of inspiring illustrations exploring spiritual visions of the 18th century Missions, and a mystical journey reflecting scriptural scenes associated with water are the highlights of an exhibition by artist Richard Arredondo that opens with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 27 at Bihl Haus Arts, 2803 Fredericksburg Road.
The exhibit, which continues through Aug. 31, includes poolside music by George and Aaron Prado. In conjunction with “Spiritual Visions,” a gallery presentation about the San Antonio Missions by Gilberto M. Hinojosa, Ph.D. of the University of the Incarnate Word will be given at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.
Using a unique medium of pen and ink, and markers on Mylar, Arredondo maintains a personal expression that displays a lithographic quality that invokes a subtle mystic realism, said Kellen McIntyre, Bihl Haus Arts executive director.
A professor emeritus, Arredondo dedicated many years to higher education in graphic design, illustration and fine arts at San Antonio College. He served as chairperson of the Visual Arts & Technology Department for 12 years. As a professional graphic designer, he has created designs for a variety of organizations including the American Heart Association, Texas Lutheran University and Jump Start Theater, to name a few.
As a fine artist, he has participated in group exhibitions at Bihl Haus Arts, SaySi, St. Mary’s University President’s Exhibit, the Ecumenical Center, Centro Cultural Aztlan, and the On & Off Fredricksburg Studio Tour.
