Under Your Skin: a celebration of tattoo artists

This spring, Motherling is putting on a new and exciting exhibition of tattoo related art work at Mercury Project. The show will open on May 20th from 6-10 p.m. and run until June 24th by appointment only.  “Under Your Skin” is an exhibition consisting of various different mediums of art ranging from tattooed sculpture to watercolors to video art. Motherling is specifically highlighting female, femme-identifying, and non-binary tattoo artists for this show, hoping to promote tattooing as an art form and giving it more of a presence in the gallery art scene in San Antonio. The title of “Under Your Skin” refers to both the medium of tattooing but also reflects on how marginalized artists and their identities have often gotten “under the skin” of those who haven’t given them fair representation in their industry. The show will feature 27 artists total consisting of regional, national, international tattoo artists.
