The San Antonio Mastersingers present their 15th annual “Musical Shower of Roses” concert. The site is again the beautiful and acoustically excellent Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower.
This year’s program, “Vive L’amour,” features the music of France and America, as the Mastersingers prepare to tour France in June 2018. The program will be repeated at the American Memorial Cemetery and Mont St. Michel, as well as Notre Dame Cathedral and La Madeleine in Paris. Highlights of the American Memorial Cemetery performance will include “Nearer My God to Thee,” and “America the Beautiful.”
French composers included on the program are Maurice Duruflé, Frances Poulenc and Gabriel Fauré. Music by American composers will be highlighted, including the famous “Dirait-on” by Morten Lauridsen, Southern folk hymns, and spirituals. The program will also include Renaissance cathedral music by G.P. Palestrina and William Byrd. We will also celebrate San Antonio’s Tricentennial with Spanish-language works about the life of St. Teresa. Please plan to attend this special Memorial Day weekend concert and wish bon voyage to the Mastersingers before their European tour.
