Join us Sunday, August 27, for “WHITEWASHING: THE STRUGGLE TO DEFEND BLACK HISTORY”, an online presentation and discussion about the attack on Black History and the fight to defend it.
In this presentation, we look at the past and present attack on Black History and the struggle to defend it. In the past few years there has been an open assault on the teaching of Black history in the school system. With the canceling of classes and removal of books, the teaching of Black history is being diluted and deleted.
Under Gov. Ron DeSantis’s “Stop WOKE” law — Florida is at the forefront of a nationwide campaign to silence Black voices and erase the full and accurate history and contemporary experiences of Black people. This disturbing pattern of silencing Black voices and aggressive attempts to erase Black history is one of the most visible examples of whitewashing.
Whitewashing is to portray (the past) in a way that increases the prominence, relevance, or impact of white people and minimizes or misrepresents that of nonwhite people.
