Mariachi Alma Nueva

Mariachi Alma Nueva is a San Antonio–born ensemble that bridges time-honored mariachi tradition with fresh, contemporary energy. Under the direction of Andre Alvarado and Stefan Nashawati, the group fuses the depth of classic rancheras and boleros with unexpected textures—sampling, subtle orchestration, and dynamic staging—to create performances that feel both authentic and new. Their studio-recorded EP showcases tight, expressive rasgueos and rich horn and string arrangements, earning accolades on regional radio and streaming platforms. On stage, they’ve electrified audiences at the Rady Shell in San Diego, the Hollywood Bowl, the San Antonio River Walk, and countless private events—from intimate dinners to grand festivals—always delivering the hallmark vibrancy and professionalism of true mariachi. Committed to community and education, Mariachi Alma Nueva regularly collaborates with UTSA’s Mariachi Los Paisanos and mentors local youth through workshops and school residencies. With a repertoire spanning Son Jalisciense and contemporary cross-genre arrangements, the group honors its Mexican roots while inviting listeners into new musical conversations.
