1906 S. Flores St., San Antonio, TX, 78204

James “Supa” Medrano was born and raised in a Mexican-American household on the westside of San Antonio, Texas. As a child, he drew constantly and it gave him the freedom to be creative and use his imagination. During high school, he discovered graffiti writing and fell in love with the art form. As an adult, the artist outgrew graffiti writing and began working with acrylics developing his signature contemporary pop art style.

Medrano’s goal as a painter is to push boundaries and develop an independent style that blurs the line between analog and digital. His techniques include use of acrylic, screen printing, and aerosol to combine pop culture with detailed imagery that produces his unique and signature style. As of 2020, Medrano has focused on painting larger panels, moving from 38”x48” to 48”x60” and continues to grow his panel size. Highly influenced by 80s nostalgia and the memories of his childhood, it’s easy to see these influences in his work. Medrano uses dark satire to narrate the themes of his paintings, creating insight for the viewer into his drive and motivation to create.

The artist is featured in multiple San Antonio Street Art Initiative collaborations including Phase I: The Murals at Midtown and Walls Within at Hopscotch. Medrano currently operates FLATLINES Gallery inside the 1906 complex located on S. Flores St. in San Antonio. He has also shown his work in Texas, New Mexico, and California.
