My name is Katie Dolan (KD). 

I am an artist and writer from San Antonio and am currently working on several children's books.

My stories stem from everyday curiosities, imaginative wonderings and my personal experience teaching art to children for 12 years.

I began my artistic journey in high school at the North East School of the Arts (NESA)  for Visual Arts and Film.   I had the privilege of being chosen to attend the prestigious Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation’s summer art program.  Upon graduating high school, I was awarded the best overall film student and received a scholarship from the Coppini Art Institute.   I attended the Maryland Institute College of Art and University of Texas at Austin on merit-based scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art.

From there, I taught art for twelve years to elementary and middle school children, all the while maintaining my own artistic endeavors.  

I have displayed art at the Centro Cultural Aztlan, The Keller-Rihn Studio, Art Inc., The Ellis Bean Gallery, Gallery 35, Northwest Vista College, Hijole Gallery, and the Blue Star Arts Collective, of which I am an active member. 

My most recent artistic endeavors include:

- a mural installation titled "Picture Book Exposition", which combined painted images and text from many of my stories in progress (Blue Star Arts Collective, December 2022) 

-a collaboration with author Xelena González on her current individual artist grant in which I made several illustrations for one of her newly written stories (*to be presented at the Carver Cultural Center, February 2024)

-an upcoming Solo exhibit, titled “An illustrated Travel Diary” ( Blue Star Arts Collective, March 2024)
