Born and raised on the outskirts of San Antonio, TX, Brittnee Lavender began exploring cultures at a young age. Encouraged by her parents to experience the world outside of herself, she began archiving vintage images of people of color from magazines, newspapers and found photos.

In 2013, she received a Bachelor's Degree in fashion design from the University of North Texas. studying fashion broadened her perspective, and she became increasingly curious about a more diversified American history outside of what is taught in public school. She expanded her studies to include a course in surface design at the Otis College of Art and Design before moving back to Texas.

With her fashion experience and a full archive of uncommon imagery, she honed in on her process, using collage as a method to share these past images of people of color that had not previously been preserved and valued. Her collages have been featured nationally in The Zoe Report, Create Magazine and Almost Real Things Magazine and internationally in Vol. Up 2. Most recently, Brittnee is developing work forĀ A Time To, a series of analog collages focused on figuring out the world in youth and even revisiting it.
