Luis Lopez, a renowned Mexican born, San Antonio based artist, paints a prolific and varied output of work, specializing in oil and acrylic paintings.  His variety of work is abstract, impressionistic, and figurative and communicates the artist’s constant mobility and his strong desire to know the world while preserving his own true identity and cultural heritage.  It is important for Lopez to connect with the spectator through his paintings. Born in Rio Bravo, in the state of Tamaulipas in Mexico, Luis Lopez immigrated to the United States in the early ‘70’s and became a US citizen.  Lopez initiated his career as an artist in 1974 in San Antonio Texas and spent several years cultivating his artistic knowledge by apprenticing with experienced and well-established fine artists and sculptors such as Luis Guzman, Alberto Mijangos, Jesus Garza and Armando Sanchez.  His experience consisted of working on various public art projects. Lopez developed his artistic skills to a level where he fulfilled commission work for mural paintings throughout San Antonio’s market square.  Numerous murals and paintings are displayed at the University of Texas in San Antonio, Port San Antonio, San Antonio College, El Carmen Medical Clinic, Mi Tierra Inc., Rolando Gutierrez Law Firm and Ruby’s in Santa Barbara, California and many other businesses, corporations and with private collectors.  He provided design and conceptual guidance, architectural renderings by focusing on the project with spontaneity, creativity, historical research, and a visual interpretation of cultural events. For Lopez, the world is his canvas.  With the success of establishing a reputation as a Fine Artist, Lopez built a striking rose-colored art studio in San Antonio called “La Casa Rosa”.  From this iconic studio, he continues to produce and exhibit his artwork and capture the interest of art enthusiasts to an international level.  The studio quickly earned a reputation for conceptualizing and creating uniquely styled murals, paintings, and sculptures. His rich color combinations represent his powerful cultural background. In June 2009, Lopez initiated the second Friday “Art on the Hill” art walk in San Antonio to promote fine arts in the historic Tobin Hill neighborhood.  Under Lopez’ supervision, more than 10 different locations and art galleries displayed art and sculptures from over 600 local artists.  His efforts have resulted in attracting attention to the Tobin Hill historical community, enhancing the neighborhood, and increasing the visibility of the artists to the public, attracting art lovers and patrons, bringing broad media coverage to the neighborhood and helping Tobin Hill’s ongoing revitalization.  Lopez received a State of Texas Proclamation from Governor Rick Perry for his creation of the Tobin Hill Arts Alliance and its impact of neighborhood artistic efforts and enhancement” in 2013.
