Sara is a multimedia artist exploring the intersection of the human experience and the natural world. Her work often explores themes of meaning-making through integrating processes to invite viewers to experience awareness and connection to sensation, place, identity, and spirituality. Using unique materials for both assemblage and visual inspiration, Sara draws from her training and practice in the field of art therapy to inform her work by providing a unique knowledge of the psychological and emotional impact of various art materials. Rich colors, textures, and a combination of  natural, hand-made, and found objects take form in sculptural pieces to create a unified visual vernacular that is revisited often.  Creating this visual language based on materials and symbols, Sara invites viewers to sense an experience with the sacred in her sculpture work.  Her two-dimensional works draw more specifically from themes of heritage and the interconnection of humans and the natural world.  A 7th generation south Texan, her family's heritage of farming, ranching, and nature conservation provide context to much of her own experience of nature. Fundamentally, her body of work is  unified in exploring meaning through the use of the transformation of the tangible to capture the intangible.

Sara lectures and facilitates workshops on the benefits of art and art-making, art for wellness, and the use of art and art materials in the counseling process. She has presented at UTSA, the Full Force Foundation, San Antonio Independent School District, LPA Design Studio, and area charter schools. Sara periodically consults with community organizations and individuals to create site specific socially engaged art installations or murals. She was a founding planning team member for the development and construction of the Old School Makerspace (OSM); a makerspace featuring a ceramic studio, woodshop, mixed media studio and gallery in Central San Antonio. She continues to participate in the OSM community as a workshop facilitator. Sara is the founder and clinical director of San Antonio Art Therapy where she provides individual outpatient art therapy services and corporate wellness trainings. Currently, Sara serves as a director on the Art Therapy Credentials Board, the national credentialing body for art therapists. The fourth Saturday of every month, you can find Sara helping facilitate the free monthly Open Art Studio at the Ecumenical Center.

Sara's art has been exhibited in small group shows in local community spaces over the past 7 years. Many of her pieces can be found in private residential collections. Her most recent endeavor is to use her artistic voice to express hope and healing on a broader scale.
