Horizon has been together since the late 1970s. In the early 1980s, we were San Antonio's most successful funk and soul band. Horizon's original music earned steady radio play in South Texas, which then led to opening for national recording acts such the Commodores, Kool and the Gang, Tavares, KC and the Sunshine Band, Roger/Zapp and a few others. The Commodores concert was a sold out show (14,000 people) in the Hemisfair Arena. We've also played the Majestic Theater, Sunken Gardens and Austin City Limits theater in Austin. While Horizon's original music has always separated the band from cover bands in the area, we can do covers with the best of them. Earth, Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, Santana, Bruno Mars, Chris Stapleton and Motown tunes are some of our favorites to do. But, we're also at home with country, Tejano and jazz. Speaking of original music, a record company in Chicago recently put together some of Horizon's early recordings and released a double vinyl album and CD. That music can be found on Spotify/Apple Music and other streaming services. Look for Horizon Magic Music. BBQ Music in Japan created a CD of some of those recordings in 2019 and a French record company selected Horizon original They Don't Make Em Like You for an R&B compilation album in 2020. Texas Monthly covered the release of Magic Music - "While Horizon never broke onto the national scene, its handful of privately pressed singles have become collector’s items in Europe, Japan and the U.S., at times fetching hundreds of dollars per 45 vinyl. In November 2021, however, Chicago-based funk and house imprint Still Music compiled and released Magic Music: The Story of Horizon, an anthology of the band’s released singles as well as ten previously unreleased tracks . Here you'll find a strain of South Texas funk, boogie, and modern soul for a new generation of listeners and deejays." Hall of Fame DJ David Munoz said, "Through my years in this business, I'm fortunate to have met and listened to many bands and artists. Horizon is one of the bands that I've had the pleasure of seeing and hearing on several occasions. They are all very talented musicians who carry themselves with a fine sense of professionalism. Their sound is crisp and clean. Crowds are always pleased with their performances, as am I." Horizon is releasing a new album in spring of 2024 called Hip Joint. It is a blend of groove heavy R&B dance tunes and soulful ballads. So look for that announcement on the Horizon website and social media channels.
