Cinema Club: The Photographer of Mauthausen

Cinema Club: The Photographer of Mauthausen

Presented by Casa de Espana San Antonio at University of the Incarnate Word - International Conference Center

Sent to the concentration camp at Mauthausen, after fighting on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War, photographer Francesc Boix was assigned to the camp’s photography laboratory. There, he succeeds in hiding away images that would expose to the world the atrocities perpetrated there by the Nazi regime. The photographs that Boix was able to take away with the help of his countrymen at the camp were fundamental in charging the Nazi High Command at the Nuremberg trials in 1946. Boix was the sole Spaniard to take part as witness in the trials. The film is based in true events.

A short presentation on the historical facts that serve as backdrop to the film will take place prior to the screening.

Director: Mar Targarona  (2018)
