Our 25th anniversary of Rio Bravo will be featuring stage and film star Jesse Borrego! Join him, the Guadalupe Dance Company and Mariachi Azteca de América for an original Folklorico Ballet celebrating our South Tejas origins with dance and music!
When the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center first presented “Rio Bravo” in July 1994, it played to sold-out houses at the Carver Theater. This enthusiasm compelled the Guadalupe to revive the production at the Carver during the summer of 1995 and several times since then including the 20th anniversary in 2014 on the stage of the Guadalupe.
In addition to the choreography, costumes, and dancers themselves, San Antonio native film and stage actor, Jesse Borrego will be joining the 25th Anniversary performance. Borrego and the Dance Company have worked together in various productions over the Dance Company’s history and Rio Bravo is one of the staple performances that bring this amazing group of talented artists together.
The production is a vibrant survey of Mexican and Tejano dance, set along a historical timeline. According to Belinda Menchaca, GCAC Education Director, “In one engaging show the audience gets to see the development of several forms that are deeply cherished by the South Texas community. The relationships we’ve established with masters such as Rafael Zamarripa are deeply important to keeping these ever-evolving traditions alive.”
