MEHR Foundation & San Antonio Persian Cultural Society in partnership with Dreamvoice, Present Microtone.
Critically acclaimed Persian setar virtuoso and world-class vocalist Fared Shafinury for a multimedia evening of poetry, dance, percussion, and strings at the UIW Concert Hall. Texas-born and -based artist Shafinury is joined by Persian percussionist Rambod Dargahi and dancer and choreographer Miriam Peretz for his Microtone Project performance.
Through Microtone, Shafinury explores relationships among Persian poetry, music, geometry, and ancient understanding of the cosmos. Along with vocal, percussion, and dance performances, Shafinury uses narration based on classical 12th- to 14th-century Persian poetry by masters such as Rumi, Hafez, and Sa’di (translations available for non-Persian speaking audience members). The performance features stunning visual designs and animation from award-winning artists Naghmeh Farzaneh and Kourosh Beigpour.
