Ballet Nepantla presents visual stories to provoke the imagination of audiences and to promote the beauty of the Latino culture through traditional ballet folkloric and contemporary ballet.
Ballet Nepantla tells stories to provoke the imagination of audiences and to help people see the beauty of our Latino culture. Nepantla evokes stories about Mexican and Mexican American people, about family, about love, and about struggles and triumphs. Through traditional ballet folklorico, and contemporary ballet, Ballet Nepantla presents VALENTINA, a collection of stories that speak to the strength and resilience of women during Revolutionary Mexico. VALENTINA tells stories of struggles and triumphs, and explores the spaces between love and hate, hope and despair.
VALENTINA was created by South Texas native Andrea Guajardo, founder and artistic director of Ballet Nepantla. Andrea began her dance training at the Dancentre of Edinburg. At 17 she moved to New York City where she accepted a scholarship to study at The Ailey School, and in 2013 graduated from Fordham/Ailey with a BFA in Dance. Andrea then joined Momix where she danced and toured the world until 2017. Andrea was a teaching artist for Dance Theater of Harlem and for Ballet Hispanico, where she delivered lecture demonstrations to schools across New York. In 2017, she founded Ballet Nepantla where she is currently artistic director choreographer and dancer.
