42nd Annual Segundo de Febrero Exhibition: El Segundo de Febrero: 172 Years of Continuing History.

Presented by Centro Cultural Aztlan at Centro Cultural Aztlan

Centro Cultural Aztlan is pleased to present the 42nd annual Segundo de Febrero exhibition: 172 Years of Continuing History.

Centro Cultural Aztlan has produced and presented the annual Segundo de Febrero exhibit since 1978 in an effort to preserve Mexican American history and culture. This exhibit commemorates the 172nd anniversary of the signing of the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the ending of the U.S. Mexican war, and the redistribution of a border—creating a new bi-cultural citizenry with a new consciousness of Mexican American dual identity, history, culture, and traditions.

The inspiration for this year’s show—172 Years of Continuing History—is the lasting effects of the broken treaty, the creation of new borders and the lasting effects it has had on our History as Latinos/as/xs, Chicanos/as/xs, and indigenous peoples. Inspiration from past and present events will result in a visual dialog of Chicano/a/x, Latino/a/x, and indigenous identity; and a reflection of the continuing history of a bi-cultural people.

Join us at the opening reception on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 6:00-9:00pm for light refreshments and live music by Juan y Armando Tejeda. Free and open to the entire community.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and will be on view through Friday, February 28, 2020 Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm.
