The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio Presents Swan Lake

The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio Presents Swan Lake

Presented by Children's Ballet of San Antonio at Majestic Theatre

Just in time for Mother’s Day, The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio (CBSA) is set to make a huge splash on its fifth anniversary with a production of the timeless classic, Swan Lake.  Known as one of the most beautiful ballets to perform, as well as Tchaikovsky’s largest and most important piece of work, Swan Lake tells the love story of Prince Siegfried and Odette, a beautiful swan princess.

The production will mark many firsts for the CBSA, including the first time that the dancers will be accompanied by a full orchestra, as they are joined by the San Antonio Symphony conducted by Noam Aviel. It also marks the first time that the CBSA will collaborate with superstar principal dancers from Russia’s famous Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.

These international artists will join nearly 200 young artists from the CBSA, ranging in age from 3 to 19. Internationally, acclaimed classical dancers, gifted special needs artists, and many other exceptional young children round out the talented ensemble cast. CBSA’s elite artists have had the privilege to train with the world’s best academies, including the Royal Ballet School in London, Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Russia, Dutch National Ballet Academy in the Netherlands, Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, the Houston Ballet, the School of the American Ballet in New York City and more.

The dancers will perform the ballet using choreography based on the revival of the production created by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov that was first staged for the Imperial Ballet in 1895 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. And, to add to the majesty of the production, they will be wearing beautiful, elaborate costumes created by a leading costume maker in Europe whose work can be seen at the top theatres around the world.

Since its inception just five years ago, the CBSA has quickly raised the “barre” on the art scene in San Antonio by garnering an impressive and extensive number of “firsts” for the city through recognition, awards, and scholarships from the most prestigious ballet competitions and schools in the world.  The Children\'s Ballet of San Antonio (CBSA) bridges the gap between young students and adult professional dancers. It is the only professional-level dance company in Texas to offer lead roles to young dancers as early as 8 years old and serves as a gateway for aspiring young dancers interested in pursuing a career in professional dance.
