Bihl Haus Arts salutes Women’s History Month with a jazz concert.
In recognition of Women’s History Month, Bihl Haus Arts presents “Fred Sings: A Salute to Women’s History Month Concert” featuring jazz vocalist Joan Carroll with guitarist Matthew Dunne at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 8 at Bihl Haus, 2803 Fredericksburg Road. Admission is free.
Joan and her band Footprints have played the San Antonio Jazz’SAlive Festival, the Fiesta Jazz Festival, the Texas Jazz Festival and the Texas Lutheran University Jazz Festival. She’s performed regularly in the Musical Offerings Jazz Meets Classical Concert Series in San Antonio. Joan also hosts her own radio program, “The Jazz Voice,” on KRTU FM 91.7 each Saturday.
Joan performs at Bihl Haus with guitarist and composer Matthew Dunne, who has written music for many leading guitar soloists and ensembles, including David Russell, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Berta Rojas, the Cavatina Duo, the Assad Duo, and William Kanengiser, among many others. Mathew, who is a professor emeritus of music at UTSA, has performed throughout the U.S. Cuba, and Mexico in both classical and jazz genres, and has recorded four compact discs, including an award-winning CD of Latin American music recorded in Mission San Jose, and a collection of his compositions for jazz quintet.
