Apprenticeships in the Folk Arts Virtual Showcase

Presented by Texas Folklife at Online/Virtual Space

Join us in celebrating the participating artists of Texas Folklife’s 2020 Apprenticeship Program as they share skills, techniques, and lessons learned through their intensive study. Bringing an array of folk and traditional artists from across Texas together, this two-part virtual event is an opportunity not only to highlight each showcasing artist’s work but inspire exchange and create connections between diverse artistic communities. Both events will stream live on Texas Folklife's Facebook page at 6PM CDT on 8/13 and 8/18 respectively.

In Part One, learn about Ghanaian Dance from Houston's Shani Sterling, Custom Bootmaking from Haslet's Jeff Moore, and Chinese Silk and Bamboo Ensemble Music from Denton's Yuxin Mei, Weiping Lu, Mae Gao, Mix Xie, and Alexander Strader. In Part Two, enjoy insight on Quilting from Austin's Jennifer Steverson, Fiber Arts from Tyler's Carol Schuler, and South Indian Carnatic Music from Irving's Srinidhi Kaushik.

This program is made possible by a State Partnership Award from the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Texas Commission for the Arts, and is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
