Reading Red Book Club: Creating Their Own Image: The History of African-American Women Artists

Presented by Artpace San Antonio at Online/Virtual Space

Join Reading Red – an Artpace book club – and explore literature that has inspired artists and exhibitions. In conjunction with Artpace’s 25th anniversary, we continue to celebrate Linda Pace’s legacy by discussing literature authored by women.

Creating Their Own Image: The History of African-American Women Artists by Lisa E. Farrington is the first comprehensive history of African-American women artists, from slavery to the present day. Concluding Their Own Image, Farrington includes interviews with contemporary artists Betye Saar, Faith Ringgold, Nanette Carter, Camille Billops and others, to examine recent developments, struggles, and influential challenges.

The bi-monthly book club will be held virtually on Saturday, September 12, at 2pm. Reading Red is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
