Love and Death in Times of Pandemic Poetry Reading

Presented by Bihl Haus Arts at Bihl Haus Arts

Artist David Zamora Casas will moderate a poetry reading and discussion related to his Dia de los Muertos installation titled “Love and Death in Times of Pandemic/Amor y La Muerte en Tiempos de Pandemia” at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 14 at Bihl Haus Arts, 2803 Fredericksburg Road. It can also be seen virtually at www.BihlHausArts.org.

Featured guests are activist/writer Marisol Cortez and Deborah Kaercher, executive director of Transitions and Decisions. Cortez is also a creative writer, editor, and community scholar whose work walks between artistic, activist, and academic worlds. She is the author of “Luz at Midnight,” to be published by Flower Song Press in December 2020. For more info on her other publications and projects, visit mcortez.net.

Using the arts, humanities and digital resources, Transitions and Decision empowers Texas communities to have advance care planning conversations that support end-of-life wishes.

Meanwhile, the Dia de los Muertos exhibition, which closes December 12, includes virtual events every two weeks. In addition, a maximum of 10 guests will be allowed to view the installation on-site during 30-minute slots on select weekends from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The next one is scheduled for Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22. All CDC and City COVID-19 guidelines will be strictly observed. Reservations can be made online at Bihl Haus website.

In the multi-media installation, Zamora Casas seeks to  preserve tradition and cultural heritage and “comment on contemporary social and political issues through paintings, photographs, dioramas and flowers that enhance this sacred ritual  site for this celebration, meditation, collective healing, unification and mourning in the continuance of the HIV/AIDS and the Covid-19 national disaster.”
