In this inaugural SAMA Salon, a panel of SAMA curators and scholars will discuss the current state and future of Latin American Art nomenclature.
Ancient Americas, Pre-Columbian, Spanish Colonial, or Folk are just a few of the terms used to describe time periods and genres within the field of Latin American art. Like many art historical terms, these designations are historically rooted in colonialism. How can we rethink the way we talk and write about art history to provide a more thoughtful approach towards Latin American objects?
