KRTU 91.7 FM presents Jazz Poetry Week on the Jazz Break at Noon, April 12-16 on the air, as host, Kory Cook and co-host Jim LaVilla-Havelin explore the intersections of jazz and poetry.
For over a decade KRTU 91.7 FM has offered Jazz Poetry Week on the Jazz Break at Noon, as host Kory Cook is joined by poet Jim LaVilla-Havelin to explore jazz poetry - its roots, its current incarnations, the local, national, and international hybrids of inspired collaboration and improvisation. From Langston Hughes to "Strange Fruit", from Vocab to Rich Oppenheim's Ferlinghetti-based explorations, from Jason Moran to Kurt Elling, Philip Levine, Roberto Bonazzi, and Fernando Flores.
Poets, musicians, share the noon hour for a week as National Poetry Month and Jazz Appreciation Month both take on April.
