San Antonio Art League & Museum "League of Women" Exhibit

San Antonio Art League & Museum "League of Women" Exhibit

Presented by San Antonio Art League and Museum at San Antonio Art League and Museum

The League of Women exhibit will feature women “Artists of the Year” and winners of the coveted Onderdonk purchase prize over the past 70 years.

The opening reception will take place at SAALM on June 27, from 3-5 pm.

SAALM president, Dona Walston, explains, “As I researched the biographies, I was blown away with the talent, dedication, and selflessness of these women. I want to make everyone aware of the huge role the women artists and leaders of San Antonio have had in creating the culture that is now San Antonio.”

Walston adds, “It was visionary women, like Ethel Drought, who founded the Art League in 1912, and other visionaries like Mary Bonner, Amy Freeman Lee and Martha Mood who have carried the torch forward and helped to shape the culture of San Antonio today. This exhibit honors the women of the San Antonio Art League, who created artwork and led the Art League in the many years of its existence. Women are a small percentage of the artists in our permanent collection. However, they are a large majority of the leaders and volunteers in the Art league.” A corresponding 40-page book, A League of Women, with images of their art and their biographies is available for $60 + shipping through the SAALM.
