An online presentation analyzing the history of Lynching in America: past and present examples
Join us Sunday August 15, for "The Lynching of Black America" an online presentation discussing the history of lynching in this country as well as present day hangings and the public execution of Black people. Lynchings of Blacks rose in number after the American Civil War during Reconstruction. Most lynchings were of African-American men in the Southern United States, but women were not immune from this heinous act. These crimes occurred throughout the U S, with documented incidents in all but four States.
"Racial terror lynching was a tool used to enforce Jim Crow laws and racial segregation—a tactic for maintaining racial control by victimizing the entire African American community, not merely punishment of an alleged perpetrator for a crime." - Lynching in America 2nd Edition Summary (EJI)
In this presentation we will review:
• The history and rise of lynchings in America
• The effects and legacy of lynching on the Black community
• How it manifests itself today
