Island of Dead Gods follows Philine, interpreter, single mother, and bankrupt, who is forced to sell her one asset, her beloved cottage on Ibiza, when she runs into even more problems: her best friend has disappeared, a fire breaks out—and, on top of all, she is confronted with Adam, a man she, for good reason, never wanted to see again. He’d flown in from Texas to bury his sister, who supposedly committed suicide on the island, though he suspects she was murdered. When a connection between her death, Phil’s disappeared friend, and more fatalities are revealed, the two ex-lovers reluctantly collaborate.

Born in a small German town above the Rhine river, Verena Mahlow was always the first one on the trains to adventure in the great wide world. Besides traveling, she loves languages, reading and writing and graduated with an MA and PhD in German, American and Italian studies. She worked as a journalist, writer, translator and interpreter and lived part of many years on the Spanish island of Ibiza. After some stints in academic Ivory towers, she got a training as scriptwriter and wrote a large number of scripts for TV-movies. Besides many articles, essays and short stories, her first novel was published and awarded 1st prize of a literary competition for female writers in Germany. Since 2011, she has been living on both sides of the Big Pond; in Mainz on the Rhine and in Dallas, TX.
