Presented by City of San Antonio. World Heritage Office at Mission Marquee Plaza

The City of San Antonio World Heritage Office presents Día de los Muertos: Celebrando las Misiones (Celebrating the Missions) on Saturday, October 30 from 2-10 p.m. at Mission Marquee Plaza.

In collaboration with the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, Mission San Jose Neighborhood Association and descendant families from Mission San Jose, this 4th annual event will begin at Mission San Jose Granary with descendant families’ ofrendas (altars) on display, educational workshops, four directions and native blessing of the ofrendas by Danza Azteca de Yanaguana, followed by a dance and drum procession from the Granary to Mission Marquee Plaza.

The celebration continues at Mission Marquee Plaza, where families are invited to contribute offerings to the Community Altar, transforming the stage into three large altars, celebrating friends and family members who have passed. Images of loved ones will be displayed on the large movie screen during the event. Anthony "The Poet" Flores will narrate the history, tradition, and symbolism of Dia de los Muertos througout the event. Activities include interactive workshops led by educator and local artist Terry Ybañez, face painting by Color Instinct, and artisans and specialty vendors with handmade Dia de los Muertos goods and crafts. Enjoy live musical and dance performances, a special film screening, and more.

The event is free and open to the public. For updates and more information, visit the Mission Marquee Plaza Facebook page or website.
