TEACHER WORKSHOP: The Telling of the "Other" Story: Contributions of Mexican Americans

Presented by Mexican American Civil Rights Institute at Streaming Online

Join social studies instructional coach Dr. Elizabeth Rivas and the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute in collaboration with Education Service Center, Region 20 for a workshop on integrating Mexican American civil rights history into TEKS-aligned 4th-grade social studies curriculum.

Please note that the March 10th workshop is designed for 4th-grade social studies teachers, but all grades are welcome. (A workshop for 7th-grade social studies teachers is scheduled for March 28th.)

This session will focus on ways teachers can regularly provide opportunities and practice for students to examine and critique cultural norms, institutions, and social systems within the context of learning in social studies. Also, this session will highlight select Latina/o, special focus will be on Mexican American historical figures, to demonstrate how teachers can use the “other” historical narrative in this critical consciousness space.
