NIMN tells the intergenerational stories of ordinary citizens respond to the policies, process, and institutions driving contemporary forms of spatial violence and gentrification in world-class cities: Cape Town, New York, and São Paulo.
SABIFF, in partnership with Azania Rizing Productions presents the award winning documentary, Not In My Neighbourhood, followed by a virtual post discussion with South African director/producer, Kurt Orderson, and co-producer Najma Nuriddin.
As cities around the world catapult themselves into ‘world-class city status’, we have to ask ourselves, “at what cost”?
This film aims to build solidarity among active urban citizens by illuminating the tools and approaches used by urban activists to shape and navigate their beloved cities that have been affected by colonization, architectural apartheid, and gentrification. NIMN follows the daily struggles, trials, and triumphant moments of active citizens, fighting for the right to live in their cities, and explores the effects of various forms of spatial violence on the spirit and social-psyche of city dwellers.

Award winning Director/Producer Kurt Orderson grew up on the Cape Flats of Cape Town, a strip of townships built by the architects of Apartheid in the 1960s. He has worked in over 6 continents and has directed and produced over 11 feature documentaries that have screened at international film festivals and on various broadcast outlets. Kurt is the founder of Azania Rizing Productions, a company that aims to inspire young people through creative storytelling about Africa and African Diasporas. His film Not In My Neighbourhood, creates a platform for these stories to be told. Post virtual film discussion after screening. #NIMN
