Centro Cultural Aztlan Celebrates Mexican- American Heritage and the Intersections of Cultural Diversity.
For the 45th Annual Segundo de Febrero Exhibit, Centro Cultural Aztlan brings together an amazing group of celebrated artists who explore the effects of the Signing of the Treaty of Hidalgo and the creation of borders and the lasting effects it has on the political landscape and the shaping of Latinos/as/xs, Chicanos/as/xs, and Indigenous identity. Through various mediums, each artist answers the question: How is identity shaped through the lens of the borderlands?

“Segundo de Febrero is an important exhibit because it marks the moment in which Centro Cultural Aztlan introduced itself to the San Antonio community in 1977. Experiencing the trauma of displacement from standing on ancestral land, drives me to continue to create a space that looks at the history of the broken Treaty of Hidalgo and continue to be an advocate to the preservation, inclusion, and celebration of our rich diverse heritage.”
-Malena Gonzalez-Cid, Executive Director

“The impact I hope my work will have for the show is that for Latinas not to submit to the “woman” that our culture creates us to be. I want my work to remind them que no se dejen y que no se deben aguantar a nadie.”
-Gabi Magaly-Artist
