Carmen From Mexico is an original solo multimedia play that reflects the playwrights own personal family history of her mother’s childhood immigration experience from Mexico to South Texas.
Playwright/Actress Anna De Luna portrays her mother Carmen (in several stages of her youth) in this powerful true story of survival, struggle and yet sometimes comical experiences of adapting to South Texas racism and prejudices. This one act play is performed primarily in English with some Spanish and contains musical accompaniment by Mike Ryan and Michael Galindo.
Carmen From Mexico is presented in collaboration with Teatro Salon - a project of the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center that showcases and helps develop new work by theater artists. Additional support for this piece was provided by the Department of Arts & Culture, City of San Antonio - as Ms. De Luna is a 2022 recipient of the Individual Artists Project Grant.
